Baylor will face its biggest test of the young season when the No. 9 Bears take on the No. 21 BYU Cougars on Saturday in Provo, Utah.

Baylor (1-0) is coming off a 69-10 win over Albany, which plays in the FCS. The victory saw eight different Bears score touchdowns. It was nothing less than a drubbing of a team that won just two games a season ago.

The Bears have a re-match with the Cougars, and it’s a game the two schools should get used to playing. BYU, along with Cincinnati, Houston and UCF, will join the Big 12 in 2023. So this isn’t just the fourth meeting all-time between the Bears and the Cougars — it’s the potential for a yearly rivalry, depending upon how the Big 12 ultimately draws the football schedule.

Baylor won last season’s matchup in Waco, 38-24. That puts the Bears up 2-1 in the all-time series. While BYU won its opener last week, a 50-21 win over USF, the Cougars had to put up with a near-three-hour rain delay. They also, oddly, beat former Baylor quarterback Gerry Bohanon, who is now the starter at USF.
