Ex Baylor Coach Matt Rhule Fired By Carolina Panthers
Just five games into his third season with the Carolina Panthers, former Baylor Bears head coach Matt Rhule has been fired by the franchise.
Rhule was 11-27 as the coach of the Panthers and had begun the 2022 season with a 1-4 record, most recently falling 37-15 to the San Francisco 49ers at home on Sunday.
Rhule's lone win of the season came in Week 3 against the Panthers division rival New Orleans Saints in a 22-14 victory at Bank of America Stadium.
Rhule, of course, is credited with putting Baylor's football program back on the map following the fallout of the Art Briles scandal.
In his first season with the Bears in 2017, the Bears would finish 1-11, missing their first bowl in nearly a decade.
However, Rhule helped the Bears rebound in 2018, leading them to a 6-6 record and a Texas Bowl win over Vanderbilt.
In 2019, Rhule led the Bears to one of its best seasons in school history, finishing the 11-1 in the regular season and making a Big 12 title appearance.
The Bears would eventually lose to Oklahoma in the conference championship game, and fall to the Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl later that year, finishing 11-3 overall.
Rhule then Parlayed that success into the Panthers' job, prompting the Bears to hire Dave Aranda.
