Leave it to Jacob Gall to say it all.

Baylor's starting center for the offensive line recently opened up to the media about everything from spring practice to Blake Shapen to preseason hype and more as the regular season looms around the corner.

"I say it all the time: the best line we're going to go against is in practice every day," Gall said. "So it's only going to make us better. I think Apu [Ika] is probably the best true zero or shade guy in the country, so I think he's making me better every single day and I think our whole d-line is making our whole o-line better each day."

So how about Shapen's improvement since last season?

"I'm seeing the confidence grow, the leadership grow," Gall said. "Last year, he wasn't really thrust into the position, but now he is. And I think he's really growing and he's really getting into it and I think he's just getting better every day."

Gall, a 6-2 299-pound offensive lineman out of Cincinnati, Ohio, believes the Baylor Bears football team doesn't pay much attention to the preseason hype and early season rankings.

"We don't really care about that stuff," Gall said. "We're in Waco, Texas. It's not a big city; not a lot of news coming in and out. So we try to just keep our heads down and work.

"That's what we've always been as an o-line and what I've always been like, so we don't really like listening to that stuff because that stuff changes every day and things like that: people like you and people don't like you. We don't really care about that stuff at the end of the day."

The sixth-year transfer from Buffalo who started all 14 games at center for the Bears in 2021 also opened up about the team's running back depth.

"I think all of our running backs are great," Gall said. "I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. They're all super good and they all have their own advantages and disadvantages, but I think they're all really good overall and I think whoever goes out there is going to be amazing in whoever we choose.

"I think it could be anyone right now. I think a lot of guys are fighting for it and I think that's great. I just think that's going to build competition for the spot and I think the best guy is going to play every single down."
