Texas Tech's Offense Lacks Consistency in a Dangerous Way
The Baylor Bears snapped a two-game losing streak with a homecoming win over Kansas that got too close for comfort in the fourth quarter. Texas Tech blasted West Virginia in Lubbock on Saturday. And now both of these teams meet in a battle of misfits.
Sure, misfit is a peculiar word to describe each of these units, but the parity of each offense that will take the field this week is apparent. Baylor uses two quarterbacks and as many running backs as are healthy. Texas Tech might just do the same.
For the Red Raiders, three different players have lined up behind center to take meaningful snaps at quarterback. All three players have 100+ passing yards.
Running back isn't quite as complicated for the Red Raiders, but there's still no hints as to who will lead the way. Sarodorick Thompson has 369 rushing yards to lead the team, but Tahj Brooks is not far behind him at 322.
Wide receiver is where things get really, really crazy. Texas Tech has had as many as 11 players catch a pass in just one game this season. There are currently six different players with over 200 receiver yards, four of whom boast over 300.
What's more, eight players have logged 100+ receiving yards and 17 offensive players have caught a pass. That is simply absurd.
It's an offense by committee at Texas Tech, and that unit has put up 37 on Texas, 31 on Oklahoma State and 48 on West Virginia. It may be a street fight in Lubbock on Saturday, but it won't be for a lack of offense.
