Baylor gets Blasted by Deuce Vaughn, No. 19 Kansas State in Waco
WACO, Texas — Baylor football (6-4, 4-3) was blown out by Kansas State (7-3, 5-2) at home on Saturday 31-3.
Merriam-Webster's Dictionary defines a blowout as a festive social affair, a bursting container, an uncontrolled eruption of an oil or gas well, and an easy or one-sided victory.
Saturday's game between the Bears and Wildcats was at least three of those things. The sellout crowd showed up in droves and aced the blackout; consider the social affair box checked.
Metaphorically speaking, Kansas State was a bursting container. The Wildcats' offense, without starting quarterback Adrian Martinez, put up 405 yards of offense to Baylor's 306.
Then there's the whole one-sided victory thing. That was absolutely the case tonight. It was never close.
Deuce Vaughn notched 106 rushing yards on 25 carries. He added a team-leading eight receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown. The Deuce was loose, and Baylor could not stop him.
Honing in on the battle of quarterbacks, Merriam-Webster's Dictionary may not have a term to adequately define this one. Will Howard, Kansas State's backup, was 19-27 for 196 yards and three touchdowns. Blake Shapen was 22-38 for 203 yards and two interceptions.
I'll offer a trigger warning before I go any further: the stats do not get any better.
Baylor was 1-3 on scoring in the red zone. Kansas State was 5-5. The Wildcats were 8-13 on third down to the Bears' 4-12. Kansas State led the rushing yards battle 198-104, the first downs battle 30-17, and the time of possession battle 37:37 to 22:23.
And, the worst stat of the night, the Wildcats scored four touchdowns. The Bears, if you could not tell, scored zero.
Baylor hosts college football playoff-hopeful TCU next Saturday.
