Baylor continued to roll on the recruiting trail this week, landing a commitment from 2023 Mineola (TX) running back/linebacker Dawson Pendergrass. 

The 6-foot-3, 215-pounder is primarily being recruited by the Bears at the running back spot. 

Pendergrass picked the Bears over multiple offers from other Power 5 schools, including Arkansas, Indiana, and Texas Tech.

He also held offers from Colorado State, UT Arlington, Army and Air Force, among others. 

Last season for Mineola, Pendergrass rushed 198 times for 1,987 yards and 25 touchdowns and hauled in 17 catches for 356 yards and four more scores. He also had 47 tackles, four pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and six interceptions. 

That season, Pendergrass was named Texas 5-3A DI first-team all-district selection at running back.

He has also named a 5-3A DI first-team all-district selection at both running back and defensive back in his sophomore campaign and was named the District 8-3A DI Offensive Newcomer of the Year after his freshman season.

For his career, Pendergrass had 462 carries for 4,230 yards and 50 touchdowns rushing, 62 catches for 1,070 yards and 15 touchdowns receiving, and 155 tackles, 11 pass breakups, four fumble recoveries, 13 interceptions, eight tackles for loss two forced fumbles, and three touchdowns on defense. 

With his pledge, Pendergrass becomes the 10th commitment of Baylor's 2023 class, joining Dripping Springs (TX) quarterback Austin Novosad, Weiss (Pflugerville, TX) wide receiver Micha Gifford, H.M. King (Kingsville, TX) offensive lineman Just DeLeon, Horizon (Scottsdale, AZ) tight end Matthew Klopfenstein, Stratford (Houston, TX) tight end Hawkins Polley, Cy Ranch (Cypress, TX) linebacker Christian Brathewait, Lake Belton (Temple, TX) safety Javeon Wilcox, Aldine Nimitz (Houston, TX) safety Cory Huff Jr., and Temple (TX) linebacker Taurean York.

The Bears have also landed a pair of commitments via the transfer portal, in former LSU linebacker Josh White, and former Tulsa defensive lineman Jaxon Player
