Liberty LB Mike Smith Commits to Baylor Bears
The Baylor Bears have landed a commitment from Liberty linebacker, Mike Smith, he announced on Tuesday.
"First off, I want to thank LU football for giving me the chance to play on the next level after my tenure at MGCCC," Smith said. "I want to thank the players and coaches for accepting me. Nonetheless, after talking with my family, I’m 100% committed to the University of Baylor!!!"
Smith is the Bears' third transfer commitment in as many days.
Smith was originally a three-star recruit coming out of high school, eventually enrolling at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
At MG CC, Smith recorded 248 tackles (151 solos, 97 assisted), 19.0 tackles for a loss, 7.0 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and two interceptions during three seasons at Mississippi Gulf Coast
Smith did not see the field for the Flames in 2022, which, in conjunction with Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze leaving for Auburn this offseason, was enough for him to zero in on finding a new home.
Smith now becomes the eighth transfer portal player to head to Waco this offseason, joining North Texas tight end Jake Roberts, BYU offensive linemen Clark and Campbell Barrington, Oklahoma State running back Dominic Richardson, Arkansas wide receiver Ketron Jackson, Michigan State kicker Jack Stone, and Miami cornerback, Isaiah Dunson.
