Boston College Men’s Basketball Wins Cayman Islands Classic

The Eagles win the title game after defeating Boise State on Tuesday night.

The Boston College Eagles (6-1) men’s basketball team defeated the Boise State Broncos (5-2) 63-61 on Tuesday night to win the Cayman Islands Classic Championship. 

The game was tight out of the gate. The Broncos had a slight advantage over the Eagles throughout the entirety of the first half, not letting their lead go until late. 

Boston College gained its fist lead of the night with 2:07 remaining in the first half after going on a 8-0 run in the closing minutes of the half. The Broncos nailed a three-pointer with three seconds left in the half which knotted the game up at 26 heading into the break. 

Coming out of halftime, the two teams battled it out on the court and went back-and-forth for the first few minutes. The Eagles held a 38-36 lead with 15:37 to go in the game, then the Broncos went on a 12-2 run in a little under four minutes to take the 48-40 lead. Prior to the run, there were three ties and six lead changes. 

The Broncos kept their lead until the Eagles went on a late run that put them back in front. Boston College went on a 11-0 run down the stretch and retook the lead 56-54 with 5:34 remaining in the game. 

Boise State regained the lead 61-60 in the final 12 seconds after a turnover by Eagles forward Elijah Strong and a foul by guard Josh Beadle, however a three-point shot by Beadle with two seconds left secured the win for Boston College. 

How it Happened:

2nd Half

  • 0:00- The buzzer sounds and Boston College wins the Cayman Islands Classic with a 63-61 victory over Boise State.
  • 0:02- Eagles guard Josh Beadle drains a three-pointer and Boston College will come out of the game with a win.
  • 0:12- After taking the lead, Boston College is down 61-60 with possession of the ball.
  • 5:34- Boston College ties up the game at 54 after going on a 6-0 run. Chad Venning is fouled and has a chance to give the Eagles the lead back.
  • 7:45- The Broncos lead the Eagles 54-48 at the under-8 timeout. Boston College guard Roger McFarlane will be shooting free throws in an attempt to cut into the deficit when play resumes.
  • 11:39- Boise State has reclaimed the lead over Boston College 48-40. Turnovers and fouls continue to be a problem for the Eagles and has been more apparent in the Broncos 12-2 run.
  • 14:56- Boston College leads Boise State 38-36. Turnovers continue to plague the Eagles. They currently have 12 on the night.

1st Half

  • 0:00- Boston College and Boise State are knotted at 26 heading into halftime. The Eagles went on a 6-0 lead to end the half but the Broncos nailed a three-pointer with seconds left in the half to force the tie.
  • 3:51- The Broncos hold a slight lead over the Eagles 23-20. Chad Venning is leading Boston College in points with four.
  • 7:38- Boise State leads Boston College 18-14. The Eagles are currently ice cold. They have only made one of their last four field goals and haven’t scored in the last 2:17.
  • 11:57- The Broncos have a 14-10 lead over the Eagles. Boston College is struggling with maintaining the ball as it already has four turnovers in the contest.
  • 15:27- Boise State holds a slim 8-6 lead over Boston College at the first media timeout. Both teams started off a little slow.
