The Boston College Eagles (2-1) men’s basketball team defeated the Temple Owls (3-1) 72-69 to secure its second win of the season on Friday night.

Both teams came out hot to start the game. The Eagles led by as many as 14 points with under six minutes remaining in the first half, but the Owls slowly chipped away at the deficit. Temple was down by five as the two teams went into halftime and took its first lead of the night with 15:25 left in the game.

The rest of the game was a back-and-forth battle that Boston College capitalized off of. The Eagles took advantage of an Owls scoring drought that lasted over four minutes and turned the ball over four times. Boston College regained the lead with five minutes left in the contest and held it for the remainder of the game.

The Owls drought plagued the team down the stretch as they scored just one field goal in the last 8:42 of play. Temple cut its deficit to one point with 20 seconds remaining in the game on a three-point shot by guard Jamal Mashburn Jr., who scored 23 on the night, however the Eagles were able to ice the game with three made free throws and a good defensive possession at the end of the contest. Mashburn Jr., missed the game-tying three-point shot as time expired.

Eagles forward Elijah Strong tallied 25 points while guard Donald Hand Jr., tallied 17.

Next up, Boston College hosts Loyola University Maryland on Tuesday night. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. ET.
