Boston College Football Becomes Bowl Eligible With Dominant Win Over UNC

The Eagles earn their sixth win of the season with an explosive performance against the Tar Heels.

The Boston College Eagles (6-5, 3-4 ACC) football team became bowl eligible on Saturday afternoon with a dominant 41-21 win over the UNC Tar Heels (6-5, 3-4 ACC) at Alumni Stadium. 

The Eagles got off to a fast 17-0 lead with a 49-yard field goal by Liam Connor which was a career high, a three-yard touchdown run by quarterback Grayson James, and a 24-yard touchdown run by athlete John Montague Jr.

The Tar Heels got on the board in the second quarter by the special teams unit with a 95-yard kickoff return touchdown by wide receiver Chris Culliver.

Boston College scored 24 unanswered points after the special teams score with an 18-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Reed Harris, a 27-yard field goal by Connor, a 78-yard pick six by defensive back Ryan Turner, and an eight-yard touchdown run by running back Kye Robichaux. 

The Tar Heels scored two offensive touchdowns late in the fourth quarter, both by running back Davion Gause. The first was a two-yard run with a little over two minutes left in the game and the second was a ten-yard run with nine seconds remaining.

The Eagles explosive performance marked the second-most points scored in a game this season and the most in conference play. 

Next up, Boston College caps off the regular season with a home game against the Pitt Panthers on Saturday, Nov. 30. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET on The CW.

4th Quarter

  • The clock hits 0:00 and Boston College earns its sixth win of the season. The victory makes the team bowl eligible. Boston College 41, UNC 21.
  • The Tar Heels add a final score to the board with a ten-yard touchdown run by running back Davion Gause. Boston College 41, UNC 21.
  • UNC scores its first offensive touchdown of the day with a two-yard run by running back Davion Gause. Boston College 41, UNC 14.
  • Boston College adds seven more points to the scoreboard with an eight-yard touchdown run by running back Kye Robichaux. Boston College 41, UNC 7.
  • Eagles cornerback Ryan Turner intercepts Tar Heels quarterback Jacolby Criswell and takes it into the end zone for a 78-yard pick six. Boston College 34, UNC 7.

3rd Quarter

  • The third quarter comes to a close. The Eagles will have the ball 1st-and-10 at their own 45-yard line to open the fourth. Boston College 27, UNC 7.
  • After starting at their own four-yard line and driving down the field, the Eagles turn the ball over on downs after quarterback Grayson James did not make the line to gain on a 4th-and-4 rush attempt. UNC will get the ball at its own six-yard line.
  • Boston College adds the first points of the second half to the board with a 27-yard field goal by Liam Connor. Boston College 27, UNC 7.
  • The Tar Heels are forced to punt on the first drive of the second half. Eagles defensive back Isaiah Farris has an excellent punt return and puts Boston College inside the red zone to start its first drive of the second half.

2nd Quarter

  • UNC throws an interception in the end zone on a Hail Mary attempt to end the first half. Eagles defensive back Carter Davis picks off Jacolby Criswell. Boston College 24, UNC 7.
  • Boston College adds an additional score to the board prior to halftime with an 18-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Grayson James to wide receiver Reed Harris. Boston College 24, UNC 7.
  • Boston College linebacker Joe Marinaro picks off UNC quarterback Jacolby Criswell. The Eagles take over at their own 32-yard line with a little under a minute remaining in the half.
  • After the touchdown drives, both teams exchange punts on their following possessions. Boston College gets the ball at its own 37-yard line.
  • UNC gets on the board with a 95-yard kickoff return touchdown by wide receiver Chris Culliver. Boston College 17, UNC 7.
  • Boston College’s John Montague extends the lead with a 24-yard touchdown run, his first collegiate touchdown. Boston College 17, UNC 0.
  • The Tar Heels turn the ball over on downs after throwing an incompletion on a 4th-and-2. Boston College will take over at its own 42-yard line.
  • The Eagles extend their lead with a three-yard touchdown run by QB Grayson James. Boston College 10, UNC 0.

1st Quarter

  • The opening quarter comes to a close. Boston College will have it 3rd-and-7 at the UNC 15-yard line. Boston College 3, UNC 0.
  • UNC is forced to punt on its first drive of the game after picking up a sole first down. Boston College will get the ball at its own 34-yard line.
  • The Eagles strike first with a 49-yard field goal by Liam Connor, a career long. Boston College had a touchdown but a controversial offensive pass interference call negated the score and the Eagles couldn’t find the end zone after that. Boston College 3, UNC 0.
  • Boston College will start the game at its own 30-yard line.

  • North Carolina wins the coin toss and defers. Boston College will get the ball to start the contest.
  • Kickoff is set for noon ET.
