Boston College Football Captures Comeback Win Over Michigan State in Red Bandanna Game
The Boston College Eagles (3-1, 1-0 ACC) football team got back in the win column on Saturday night with a victory over the Michigan State Spartans (3-1, 1-0 B1G) 23-19 at Alumni Stadium in its 11th annual Red Bandanna Game.
The Spartans struck first on a 41-yard field goal by Jonathan Kim on the team’s first possession of the night. Boston College responded on its following drive with an 11-yard touchdown run by running back Turbo Richard.
After each team exchanged scores, it was a streaky back-and-forth battle.
Michigan State scored ten unanswered points to close the first half on a one-yard touchdown run by quarterback Aidan Chiles and a 26-yard field goal. The Eagles responded with ten unanswered points of their own to open the second half on a 39-yard field goal by Luca Lombardo and a 36-yard touchdown run by running back Treshaun Ward to take the three-point advantage. Both of Boston College’s scores came off turnovers by the Spartans, a fumble on the second half kickoff and an interception by Chiles.
The Spartans scored a pair of field goals in the second half, a 51-yarder and a 27-yarder, however the Eagles went back in front on a 42-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Thomas Castellanos to wide receiver Lewis Bond with 1:28 remaining in the game.
Michigan State had a final opportunity to go down the field, but an interception by defensive back Max Tucker secured the victory.

Fourth Quarter:
- Boston College takes a knee to run out the clock. Boston College 23, Michigan State 19.
- Boston College’s Max Tucker picks off Aidan Chiles with 36 seconds left in the game.
- Boston College retakes the lead on a 42-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Thomas Castellanos to wide receiver Lewis Bond with 1:28 to go. Boston College 23, Michigan State 19.
- Michigan State breaks up the tie with a 27-yard field goal with 4:12 remaining in the game. Michigan State 19, Boston College 16.
- Boston College turns the ball over on downs after going for it on 4th-and-Goal at the one-yard line and don’t get into the end zone. The Spartans take over at their own one.
Third Quarter:
- The third quarter comes to a close. Boston College will have the ball 2nd-and-Goal at the MSU5 to open the fourth quarter. Michigan State 16, Boston College 16.
- The Boston College defense forces Michigan State to punt. The Eagles nearly block it, but the Spartans got it off Boston College will get the ball at its own 48-yard line.
- The Spartans tie up the ballgame with a 51-yard field goal by kicker Jonathan Kim. Michigan State 16, Boston College 16.
- Boston College retakes the lead on a 36-yard touchdown run by running back Treshaun Ward. The extra point is good. Boston College 16, Michigan State 13.
- The Spartans turn the ball over on their second straight possession on an interception by quarterback Aidan Chiles. Eagles DB Amari Jackson recorded the pick. Boston College gets the ball back at the MSU36.
- After Michigan State fumbles the opening kickoff with Boston College recovering, the Eagles cut into their deficit with a 39-yard field goal by kicker Luca Lombardo, his first field goal of his career. Michigan State 13, Boston College 9.
Second Quarter:
- Thomas Castellanos takes a knee to end the first half. Michigan State gets the ball to start the second half. Michigan State 13, Boston College 6.
- After a Boston College three-and-out, Michigan State extends its lead on a 26-yard field goal by kicker Jonathan Kim with 20 seconds remaining in the half. Michigan State 13, Boston College 6.
- Spartans quarterback Aidan Chiles is picked off by Eagles defensive back Carter Davis. Boston College takes over at its own 22-yard line with a little over three minutes until half.
- Michigan State responds with a nine snap, 75 yard drive capped off by a one-yard touchdown run by quarterback Aidan Chiles. Michigan State 10, Boston College 6.
- Boston College gets on the board and takes the lead on an 11-yard touchdown run by running back Turbo Richard, the first of his collegiate career. Luca Lombardo misses the extra point, his first miss of the year. Boston College 6, Michigan State 3.
First Quarter:

- The Boston College defense forces a three-and-out after the fumble and the Eagles get the ball back at their own 36-yard line.
- After a Michigan State kickoff out of bounds, Boston College drives into the red zone and turns the ball over on a fumble by RB Treshaun Ward. The call was reviewed and confirmed and the Spartans take over at their own seven-yard-line.
- The Spartans strike first on a 41-yard field goal by kicker Jonathan Kim. Michigan State 3, Boston College 0.
- Boston College goes three-and-out on the first drive of the team. The Eagles recorded -3 yards on the drive. After a 27-yard punt by Liam Connor, Michigan State starts its drive on the BC49.
