Boston College Leads Syracuse 44-20 After Wild First Half
It was a wild first half as the Eagles and Orange traded blows throughout the first fifteen minutes. Boston College's offense was the story of the game, racking up 484 yards in the first half, seemingly marching down the field at will and making huge explosive plays consistently.
To start the game marched down the field on a series of AJ Dillon runs, but stalled near the end zone, the Eagles capitalized with a 21 yard field goal by Aaron Boumerhi. Syracuse quickly responded as Tommy Devito quickly moved down the field on a six play drive that ended with a touchdown pass to Aaron Hackett to give the Orange the lead.
BC's offense did the defense no favors when Syracuse got the ball back on consecutive plays on fumbles by Hunter Long and David Bailey. With short fields on both drives Syracuse scored 10 points on a field goal and a 26 yard touchdown pass from Devito to Trishton Jackson to give Syracuse the 17-10 lead. Dennis Grosel led Boston College to a quick touchdown on a 64 yard bomb to Kobay White who was completely uncovered.
After another Syracuse field goal by Andre Szymt, Boston College took the first play of the second quarter and rode Dennis Grosel's arm to another bomb this time to Zay Flowers, his second 50+ yard pass of the game and gave BC the 24-20 lead.
Boston College's defense held Syracuse to a quick three and out, and on the second play of the next drive, AJ Dillon took a misdirection and ran it for 54 yards for yet another touchdown for the Eagles, 31-20 Boston College. BC gets the ball quickly and David Bailey runs it for 74 yards for yet another touchdown, unfortunately with a bad snapped extra point they failed on the two point conversion.
The Eagles were not done though, after a fumble by Tommy Devito, AJ Dillon who had 146 yards in the first half bashed his way to the goal line. Dennis Grosel hits his third touchdown pass of the first half this time to Isaiah Miranda who filled in for Hunter Long who was hurt on the same drive.
