Boston College Football’s Late Rally Comes Up Short Against No. 14 SMU
The Boston College Eagles (5-5, 2-4 ACC) football team suffered a road loss to the No. 14 SMU Mustangs (9-1, 6-0 ACC) 38-28 on Saturday evening.
After shanking a 24-yard field goal attempt to open the game, the Mustangs got off to a quick 10-0 lead as they scored on a 15-yard touchdown reception from QB Kevin Jennings to WR Roderick Daniels Jr., and a 35-yard field goal.
The Eagles didn’t go down without a fight and slowly chipped away at the lead. Boston College outscored SMU 21-10 and took its first lead of the day early in the third quarter.
Boston College saw scores from running back Kye Robichaux, a two-yard run, tight end Kamari Morales, a 13-yard reception, and quarterback Grayson James, a 20-yard run in that time frame.
SMU answered back and scored ten unanswered points down the stretch. The Eagles attempted a late rally and cut their deficit to as little as three with a three-yard scoring run by Robichaux, however couldn’t do enough to finish the comeback attempt.
The Mustangs added a final touchdown to the board with eight seconds remaining to ice the game.
Boston College will look to become bowl eligible next Saturday as the team hosts UNC. Kickoff is set for noon ET.
