Boston College Football: 2023 Out of Conference Schedule Complete
Boston College has it's 2023 out of conference schedule complete, as NIU announced that they will be playing the Eagles to kick off the 2023 season on September 2nd. Now this isn't necessarily breaking news, this just clarifies the earlier deal the Eagles had made with the Huskies. At first it looked like this was a home and home deal, but through a FOIA request fbschedules.com discovered it was in fact a two for one deal, with Boston College landing two home games.
Interestingly the FOIA came up with some of the financials regarding this matchup as well, per their site "Boston College will pay Northern Illinois a $1.1 million guarantee for the contest in 2023, per the contract. The Eagles paid the Huskies $350,000 for the 2015 contest, which was followed by a $300,000 payment from Northern Illinois to Boston College for the contest in 2017."
Boston College played NIU at Alumni Stadium in a game the Eagles won 17-14. The two played at Huskie Stadium in 2017 in Anthony Brown's first start, where again BC squeaked by with a 24-20 win. NIU is currently 2-5 under new head coach Thomas Hammock who replaced Rod Carey who left for Temple at the end of the 2018 season.
With NIU on the schedule, 2023 is set for out of conference scheduling. BC now will be traveling to Army, while facing off against UConn, NIU and Holy Cross at home. Additionally their Coastal Division matchup will be against Miami at Hard Rock Stadium. The in conference home games for that season will be Florida State, Wake Forest, NC State and Virginia Tech.
