No. 24 Boston College Falls to No. 6 Missouri in Columbia, Suffers First Loss of Season
The No. 24 Boston College Eagles (2-1, 1-0 ACC) football team suffered its first loss of the season to the No. 6 Missouri Tigers (3-0, 0-0 SEC) 27-21 on Saturday afternoon at Faurot Field in Columbia, Mo.
Boston College got off to 14-3 lead on a pair of possessions.
The Eagles first touchdown of came on a second-chance opportunity. During the drive, the Tigers defense held the Eagles, but an illegal use of hands to the face penalty on Missouri resulted in a fresh set of downs. Boston College continued to drive down the field and scored on a 12-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Thomas Castellanos to wide receiver Jerand Bradley.
The second touchdown was the result of a strange play that benefited the Eagles. Castellanos fumbled the snap, picked the ball up off the ground, and threw a 67-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Reed Harris to extend the Eagles lead by two scores.
The home team, however, refused to go down without a fight. After a pair of 38-yard field goals by Missouri kicker Blake Craig, the Tigers tied the contest on a 19-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brady Cook to wide receiver Luther Burden III and took the lead on a 55-yard field goal as time expired in the second quarter. Missouri extended its lead on its first drive of the second half with a six-yard touchdown run by Cook.
Neither team could capitalize on anything until the last six minutes of the contest.
The Tigers extended their lead on a 31-yard field goal with 5:58 left in the game and Boston College scored on a 38-yard touchdown pass from Castellanos to tight end Kamari Morales with 3:45 remaining in the game but a couple of first downs by Missouri secured the win.

- Missouri seals the game with a couple of first downs. Missouri 27, Boston College 21.
- Boston College cuts its deficit with a 38-yard touchdown pass from Thomas Castellanos to TE Kamari Morales. Missouri 27, Boston College 21.
- The Tigers extend their lead on a 31-yard field goal by Blake Craig. Missouri 27, Boston College 14.
- Missouri QB Brady Cook throws an incompletion on 4th-and-4 but a pass interference penalty by Boston College’s Khari Johnson gives the Tigers a fresh set of downs well within field goal range with 10:28 to go in the game, up by ten.
- Boston College QB Thomas Castellanos throws an interception, his second of the day. Missouri will take over at its own 38-yard line.
Third Quarter:
- The third quarter comes to a close with the Tigers leading 24-14. Missouri has the ball 3rd-and-34 at its own 38-yard line to start the fourth after multiple penalties on the drive.
- Missouri gets the ball back after the defense forced an Eagles punt. The Tigers get the ball at their own 40-yard line. Missouri 24, Boston College 14.
- Boston College goes three-and-out on its first drive of the second half. Missouri will get the ball its own 35-yard line.
- The Tigers extend their lead on a six-yard touchdown run by QB Brady Cook. Missouri 24, Boston College 14.
- A touchback starts the second half and Missouri will get the ball at it’s own 25-yard line.
Second Quarter:
- Missouri kicker Blake Craig nails a 55-yard field goal to put the Tigers up heading into halftime. Missouri Tigers 17, Boston College 14.
- Missouri ties up the ballgame with a 19-yard touchdown pass from QB Brady Cook to WR Luther Burden III. The Tigers get the two-point conversion. Boston College 14, Missouri 14.
- Boston College QB Thomas Castellanos throws his first interception of the season and Missouri returns it to the BC25. Castellanos had some close calls all afternoon but was the first ball the Tigers could keep.
- The Tigers cut it to a one score game with a 38-yard field goal by Blake Craig. Boston College 14, Missouri 6.
- What looked to be a disastrous play turns into a score. After a fumble on the snap by QB Thomas Castellanos, he picks it up and throws a 67-yard touchdown pass to WR Reed Harris. Boston College 14, Missouri 3.
- The Tigers are forced to punt and Eagles returner Cameron Martinez calls for a fair catch at the BC14. Missouri picked up a pair of first downs on the drive but couldn’t get into range to put points on the board. Boston College 7, Missouri 3.
- The Eagles are forced to punt on their second drive of the day. The Tigers will have the ball at their own 22-yard line.
