Throughout the week, Boston College football head coach Bill O’Brien had one main message: Start faster.

With quarterback Thomas Castellanos back under center after missing last week’s game with a concussion according to the ACC Network broadcast, that’s exactly what happened.

In the first 17 minutes of game time, Boston College got off to a 14-0 lead with a pair of touchdown passes, a nine-yarder to wide receiver Jaedn Skeete and a 29-yarder to tight end Kamari Morales, by Castellanos. The junior didn’t record an incompletion until the 2:10 mark in the second quarter.

That lead, however, dwindled as the game progressed. Virginia stormed back and scored 24 unanswered points. Kicker Will Bettridge scored a hat trick of field goals, a 35-yarder, 33-yarder, and 26-yarder, wide receiver Malachi Fields caught a 30-yard touchdown reception, wide receiver Andre Greene Jr., converted a two-point conversion, and safety Jonas Sanker had a 40-yard scoop and score after a fumble by Castellanos.

Boston College’s offense went ice cold and collapsed in the second half. Since the second touchdown score, the Eagles punted four times and turned the ball over three times, all on Castellanos.

With the 24-14 loss, Boston College heads into its BYE week 4-2 on the season.
