BYU Big Man Aly Khalifa Leads the Country in Assist to Turnover Ratio
On Friday, BYU rolled past Bellarmine for another dominant victory. For BYU big man Aly Khalifa, Friday's game was a significant one because it was his ninth game at BYU. That meant he had played enough games to qualify for the NCAA stat leaderboards.
Now that he is qualified, Khalifa leads the NCAA is assist to turnover ratio with an exception 17.0. Khalifa has 34 assists this season to just 2 turnovers. That is miles ahead of Utah State's Darius Brown who ranks second nationally with an assist/turnover ratio of 5.82.
Khalifa is the best passing big man in college basketball. His ability to see the floor and distribute the basketball makes BYU's offense extremely difficult to stop.
Over the last few games, Khalifa's three-point shooting has started to improve as well. If Khalifa can consistently hit at least 30% or more of his threes, it will open up even more passing lanes.
BYU has been so dominant this season, but they still haven't played at full strength. At the beginning of the season, Dawson Baker and Marcus Adams were not available to play. Now that both Baker and Adams are available, BYU stars Jaxson Robinson and Fousseyni Traore are nursing injuries and trying to get back into the lineup.
BYU could get even better in January when all their scholarship players are available. BYU has a case to make as the deepest team in college basketball.
