Four-Star Forward Isaac Davis Commits to BYU Basketball
On Wednesday, four-star power forward Isaac Davis committed to Mark Pope and the BYU basketball program. Davis, who is BYU's first commit in the 2024 recruiting class, picked BYU over competing offers from Oklahoma, Washington State, Utah State, UNLV, and VCU among others. Davis is a top 100 recruit in the 2024 class according to 247Sports where he ranks 94th nationally.
As a junior last season, Davis led Hillcrest High School to its second consecutive championship in the Idaho 4A classification. In the state championship game, Davis scored 22 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. He averaged 17.6 points per game and 9.0 rebounds per game last season according to MaxPreps.
Davis' star rating is subject to change before he signing day, but as of this article, Davis is a composite four-star recruit with an overall rating of .9406. That ranks eighth on the list of highest-rated basketball recruits to commit with BYU. He ranks ahead of former highly-coveted recruits like Lee Cummard, Yoeli Childs, Damarcus Harrison, and Kyle Collinsworth among others.
BYU basketball hasn't signed many high school recruits in the Mark Pope era. Davis is the first high school commit since four-star standout Collin Chandler signed with BYU in the 2022 signing class. Chandler is currently serving a mission and will join the program after his missionary service.
Pairing Davis with Collin Chandler gives BYU two four-star high school recruits to pair together as it heads into the Big 12. High school recruiting will always be critical to the long-term health of BYU's basketball rosters. Adding Davis into the fold is a big-time win for Mark Pope and his staff. If Davis can live up to his star rating, he will be a pillar in the program that BYU can build around alongside Collin Chandler.
