WCC Standings Update

BYU has fallen to sixth place in the WCC standings with a 6-9 conference record. A few weeks ago, the Cougars were in fourth place before losing four consecutive games to Pepperdine, Gonzaga, Santa Clara, and Saint Mary's. BYU needs to beat San Francisco to secure a top-six finish in the WCC. A top-six finish is important since it ensures a first-round bye in the conference tournament.

With a loss, the fate of BYU's tournament seeding would be in the hands of the Pacific Tigers. Pacific would need to lose at home to Portland tonight for BYU to have a first-round bye in the conference tournament.

The WCC will unveil the brackets for both the men's and women's conference tournaments on Sunday.

Regardless of how you slice it, the regular season has been a disappointment for the BYU basketball program. On multiple occasions, BYU failed to close out games against some of the top teams in the conference. The Cougars have lost 8 of their last 11 conference games. A strong showing in the conference tournament could give BYU some momentum heading into the offseason as it prepares for the Big 12 next season.
