Mark Pope Provides Injury Update on Dawson Baker

On Wednesday evening, BYU basketball head coach Mark Pope provided an injury update on guard Dawson Baker. Baker has only played in four games this season while he has dealt with a foot injury. Baker played only four minutes against Cincinnati and he did not return to the game. A few days later, he did not make trip with the team to Waco.

"It's not final, final, but it's heavily looking like he's going to have to have surgery. We should get final word here in the next 24 hours. That's the way it looks right now."

In four games, Baker was slowly taking growing into a bigger role on this BYU basketball team. He was averaging only 5 points and 1.5 assists per game, but most importantly, he brought a unique skillset off the bench. Baker was one of the better players at getting to the rim and creating shots. That was a valuable skillset that BYU could have used in late-game situations.

Baker came to BYU by way of UC-Irvine. In three seasons at UC-Irvine, Baker averaged 12.9 points per game on 46.2% shooting. Last season, Baker averaged a career high 15.3 points per game, and he averaged 3.2 rebounds per game along with 1.2 assists per game.

He has two years of eligibility remaining. Should he miss the rest of the season, he will retain this year of eligibility and have two more seasons remaining.
