Rams Star Cooper Kupp Gives Glowing Review of Rookie WR Puka Nacua
In April, former BYU star Puka Nacua was selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. In just a few weeks with the team, Nacua has impressed Rams star wide receiver Cooper Kupp during OTAs.
Kupp was asked about Nacua on Tuesday following practice. "He's pretty special," Kupp said when asked about Nacua. "If he can stay on a good trajectory, he's going to be a very good football player in this league. I love the way that he attacks each day. He's got a great feel for the game, great feel for leverage, running routes...he's transitioned so quickly to understanding what the parameters are that he's able to work in.
"He's asking the right questions too I think that's the big thing," Kupp continued. "As he gets more reps, as he keeps seeing these things, he's just going to keep getting better and better. I'm really excited about him and the steps he's going to be able to take over the next few months."
Through two seasons at BYU, Nacua racked up over 1,700 yards of total offense and 18 total touchdowns. When healthy, Nacua was one of the most electric wide receivers in BYU history. Nacua possessed a rare ability to catch 50/50 balls, he was extremely dangerous after the catch, and he displayed a field awareness to keep his feet inbounds while making acrobatic catches. According to Kupp, Nacua is transitioning nicely to the next level.
Nacua became the highest-drafted wide receiver out of BYU since Austin Collie was picked in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts.
