BYU Adds Former UCLA DL Coach Chad Kauha'aha'a as Senior Analyst

Kauha'aha'a has extensive experience as a defensive line coach, and he has multiple connections to BYU's current coaching staff

On Tuesday, BYU announced the hiring of former UCLA defensive line coach Chad Kauha'aha'a as a senior analyst. Kauha'aha'a, who was at UCLA for just one season in 2022, has spent time at USC, Utah, Wisconsin, Oregon State, Boise State, Utah State, UNLV, and Weber State.

Kauha'aha'a has extensive experience as a defensive line coach, and he has multiple connections to BYU's current coaching staff. Prior to his stint at UCLA, Kauha'aha'a was the defensive line coach at UNLV from 2020-2021. He was the defensive line coach at USC in 2019 where he coached future NFL Draft picks like Jay Tufele and Drake Jackson.

Prior to his time at USC, Kauha'aha'a was the defensive line coach at Boise State in 2018. He coached up a Boise State defensive line that was one of the better units against the run in the country.

From 2015-2017, he was the defensive line and outside linebackers coach for Oregon State. In 2015, he would have been under then Oregon State defensive coordinator Kalani Sitake. Sitake, obviously, is now the head coach at BYU.

Prior to Oregon State, Kauha'aha'a was on Gary Anderson's staff at Wisconsin from 2013-2014. From 2011-2012, Kauha'aha'a was the defensive line coach at the University of Utah when Kalani Sitake and Jay Hill were on the Utah staff.

Kauha'aha'a will bring very valuable experience to a BYU defensive line that will feature a lot of new faces in 2024. This group, perhaps more than any, will need to take a step forward for BYU's defense to make improvements in 2024. Having another analyst coaching up this group is a good thing for Jay Hill.
