BYU and SMU Will Face Off on Friday Night in Week Two

The Cougars will travel to Texas to take on SMU in week two of the 2024 college football season

On Tuesday afternoon, the ACC released the dates for the weeknight games of the 2024 college football season. SMU, who will join the ACC before the 2024 season, will face BYU on Friday night in week two. While the broadcast plans for this game were not included in this announcement, this game will likely be nationally broadcast on ESPN.

For BYU, the road game at SMU will be the first real test of the 2024 season. BYU kicks off the 2024 season with a home game against FCS foe Southern Illinois. Southern Illinois will be a good tune-up opportunity for the Cougars who could feature a lot of new faces on defense and potentially a new quarterback.

The Big 12 is expected to release the 2024 football schedule on January 30th, Max Olson of The Athletic reported on Sunday. The conference, which will include a record 16 teams in 2024, released the matchups for the 2024 season back in November. The timing of the games will be released later this month.

BYU is scheduled to host five conference games in 2024 against Arizona, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Houston, and Kansas. They will travel to play at Arizona State, Utah, Baylor, and UCF.

After BYU takes on SMU, they will hit the road again to take on the Wyoming Cowboys. Of the three non-conference games this season, BYU will not play an FBS team at home. Time will tell if that scheduling strategy comes back to bite BYU who will likely be fighting for bowl eligibility in 2024.
