BYU Injury Report for Texas Tech

BYU is expecting to get a few players back for Texas Tech

BYU and Texas Tech kickoff at 5:00 PM Mountain Time at Lavell Edwards Stadium. Below is the injury update for BYU as we approach game time.

  • Veteran running back Aidan Robbins will play for the first time since week two. Robbins will be the backup at running back behind LJ Martin.
  • Starting cornerback Kamden Garrett will play after missing the game against TCU
  • Wide receiver Keanu Hill may not be ready to play - he will be a game-time decision
  • Return specialist Hobbs Nyberg is a game-time decision
  • Special teams specialist and backup cornerback Marcus McKenzie is a game-time decision
  • BYU will start Ethan Slade and Crew Wakley at safety - Preston Rex and Raider Damuni will be backups

On Tuesday, BYU defensive coordinator Jay Hill announced that BYU is expected to welcome cornerback Kamden Garret back to the starting lineup.

"That one hurt too," Hill said when asked about Garrett's absence against TCU. "Losing Kam Garrett, who's playing as good as any corner in the conference, that hurt. He practiced very well today and we expect him to play on Saturday. He looked great today."

In five games this season, Garrett has been one of the best defensive backs for the Cougars. He has allowed receptions on 63% of his targets, second only to Jakob Robinson. Garrett has tallied 14 total tackles, 3 pass breakups, and 1 interception. He will be a valuable asset for a BYU defense that allowed a season high 447 yards passing last week.

Hill also provided an injury update on safety Talan Alfrey. Afrey hasn't played this season since he suffered an injury during Fall camp. "Talan's going to be back soon," Hill said. "I don't think it will be this week, we're hoping for Texas. He'll be back soon."
