BYU Signee Faletau Satuala is the New Top Recruit in the State

It's been over a decade since BYU signed the top in-state recruit

On Monday, 247Sports made the final updates to the player rankings for the 2024 class. BYU signee Faletau Satuala was one of the biggest risers out West. Satuala improved from a four-star with a 91 rating to a four-star with a 94 rating. With that adjustment, he went from being ranked the 211th best prospect in the 2024 class to being ranked the 131st prospect in the country. Satuala also became the highest-rated recruit in the state of Utah by a decent margin. Utah commit Isaiah Garcia ranks second with a rating of 92.

It's been over a decade since BYU signed the top recruit in the state. The last time BYU signed the top in-state recruit was in 2012 when the Cougars signed Troy Hinds. However, top recruits Kingsley Suamataia and Puka Nacua transferred to BYU after signing elsewhere out of high school. Here are the top in-state recruits and where they signed coming out of high school.

  • 2024 Faletau Satuala - BYU
  • 2023 Spencer Fano - Utah
  • 2022 Lander Barton - Utah
  • 2021 Kingsley Suamataia - Oregon
  • 2020 Noah Sewell - Oregon
  • 2019 Puka Nacua - Washington
  • 2018 Penei Sewell - Oregon
  • 2017 Jay Tufele - USC
  • 2016 Leki Fotu - Utah
  • 2015 Osa Masina - USC
  • 2014 Bryan Mone - Michigan
  • 2013 Cooper Bateman - Alabama
  • 2012 Troy Hinds - BYU

Satuala becomes the highest-rated player (per 247) in the Kalani Sitake era.

Satuala committed to the Cougars a few weeks ago at the All-American game. Satuala picked BYU over finalists Utah and UCLA. He also picked up offers from USC, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Arizona, Arizona State, Washington State, Oregon State, and Utah State during the process.

Satuala is the highest-rated recruit in BYU's 2024 class. BYU's 2024 class currently ranks 49th in the high school recruiting rankings. Their 2024 class, which still has the potential to get better over the next few weeks, is a step in the right direction.

Satuala has the potential to be a very special player for BYU. He will start out on the defensive side of the ball and that's likely where he'll stay, but he also has the potential to play some wide receiver or tight end at the next level.
