BYU WR Talmage Gunther Goes Viral in Video with Son on Senior Day
On Saturday against Oklahoma, BYU honored 30 players as part of Senior Day. One of the players that was honored was wide receiver Talmage Gunther. When the Cougars ran out of the tunnel in front of a sold-out crowd, Gunther was joined by his son. The moment was captured by the social media team at BYU and it went viral shortly after being posted.
As of this writing, this post by Bleacher Report has over 5.2 million views and nearly 34 thousand likes.
Gunther is in his fifth year with the BYU football program. He came to BYU by way of Lone Peak High School where he was a decorated quarterback at the prep level. During his BYU career, he has been a wide receiver. However, the majority of his playing time has been on special teams. On the opening kickoff against Arizona State in 2021, Gunther forced a fumble that BYU recovered. A few plays later, BYU scored to take a 7-0 lead.
He has also played a role as a returner in both kickoff return and punt return. In 2021, he appeared in all 13 games for the Cougars. He also appeared in all 12 games for BYU in 2020.
Gunther is a father of two and a team favorite in the locker room. He is a finance major and he served a mission in Zimbabwe prior to enrolling at BYU.
