BYU's Big 12 Opener at Kansas Has Sold Out

Kansas expects a large contingent of BYU fans in Kansas on Saturday

BYU's first conference game as a Big 12 team has sold out, the Kansas athletic department announced on Tuesday. BYU and Kansas kick off at 2:30 PM CST in Lawrence the first 2023 conference game for both teams. Over 47,000 fans will be at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium to watch the Cougars take on the Jayhawks. There is a lot of excitement surrounding the Kansas football program that is off to a 3-0 start for the second consecutive season. There's also a lot of excitement for BYU fans who will get to see their team play in a Power Five conference for the first time.

BYU fans are notorious for traveling well and Kansas expects a large representation from BYU fans on Saturday.

“We do know there will be more visiting fans here than we would typically have even with a bordering state Big 12 opponent,” Kansas athletic director Travis Goff said in an interview with Phog.net. “BYU fans both travel, we also know there are a number of fans in the Kansas City area. And so they’ve been buying more than you would see in almost any other visiting situation. And they’re going to have a little presence. So we need to be a sellout for all the right reasons, but we also need it to be as full of Jayhawk fans as possible, because I think BYU fans will make their presence felt in there.”

BYU fans represented the program last week in Arkansas where an estimated 10,000 BYU fans showed up to watch BYU take down the Razorbacks.
