BYU's Home Game Against Oklahoma is Nearly Sold Out

BYU will host the Sooners for the first time in program history in November

For the first time in program history, BYU is set to host the Oklahoma Sooners at home this season. The Cougars and the Sooners will square off on November 18, 2023 at Lavell Edwards Stadium.

On Wednesday August 9, single game BYU tickets went on sale to the public. The home game against Oklahoma is proving to be a hot ticket. As of Wednesday morning, only five single game tickets remained on the BYU tickets website. Those five unclaimed seats were scattered in random sections around the 63,470 capacity stadium. A BYU spokesperson confirmed that all season tickets have been sold, so once those five tickets are sold, the game will be sold out.

BYU-Oklahoma games are rare. The November game will be only the third matchup between the two storied programs and the first since 2009. In that 2009 game, no. 20 BYU took down no. 3 Oklahoma 14-13 in the first game ever played at the new Dallas Cowboys stadium. Oklahoma star quarterback Sam Bradford left the game early with a shoulder injury. BYU quarterback Max Hall found wide receiver McKay Jacobson for a go-ahead score late in the fourth quarter.

The first BYU-Oklahoma game was in 1994 in the Copper Bowl. BYU dominated that game 31-6 thanks to 454 passing yards and four touchdowns from quarterback John Walsh.

The 2023 matchup will be the first BYU-Oklahoma game played on one of the two campuses. The first two were neutral site contests.

It could also be the last game between the two programs. In 2024, Oklahoma will leave the Big 12 to join the SEC. BYU will remain in the new Big 12 that will welcome Utah, Arizona, Arizona State, and Colorado in 2024.
