Cincinnati DE Daniel Grzesiak Says Lavell Edwards Stadium is 'Nothing Crazy'

The former Utah State standout played against BYU in 2022

When Cincinnati defensive lineman Daniel Grzesiak takes the field on Friday night, it will be his second time playing in Lavell Edwards Stadium. Last year, Grzesiak played for Utah State when the Aggies traveled to Provo in a 38-26 loss. Grzesiak met with the media earlier this week and he described the environment at Lavell Edwards Stadium as "nothing crazy".

"Really the elevation is going to be a factor in this game," Grzesiak said. "I feel like the crowd, I feel like Nippert's [Stadium] is better. It's nothing that we ain't seen before. It's going to be loud in there, but the elevation is going to be a little bit of a problem. I played there last year and it was nothing crazy."

BYU fans are going to put Grzesiak's statement to the test on Friday night. The BYU-Cincinnati game has sold out and Lavell Edwards Stadium can get very loud, especially when its sold out. Last year in a double overtime game against Baylor, Baylor had the ball inside the five yard-line with a chance to win the game. The crowd prohibited the offensive line from hearing the snap count - the offensive line was flagged for two false start penalties on the last three plays. Those penalty yards were the difference and BYU held on to win.

In front of another sellout crowd in 2021, BYU took down no. 19 Arizona State. On a critical drive in the fourth quarter, the BYU crowd forced four false starts.

You can expect the sold out Lavell Edwards Stadium to be loud once again on Friday night. It's a celebration for the BYU fanbase who will get to see their team play a P5 conference game for the first. On Wednesday, BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe issued a challenge to BYU fans to make it the loudest game ever.

Grzesiak on the BYU-Utah State Rivalry

In that game against BYU in 2022, Grzesiak had three total tackles for the Aggies. BYU's offense finished with just under 400 yards of total offense. The Cougars pulled away in the second half and held on to win.

When asked whether BYU-Utah State is rivalry, Grzesiak confirmed and added that a rivalry trophy is involved. "It is [a rivalry]. There is actually a trophy for that Utah State vs BYU, I forgot what it was...we call them the school down South."

A few months after BYU accepted an invitation to join the Big 12, BYU Athletic Director Tom Holmoe announced that BYU's ongoing series with rival Utah State was temporarily cancelled. BYU currently has no future games scheduled against the Aggies.
