Cosmo's Backflip Fire Stunt is Going Viral
In the first half of BYU's win over Cincinnati, the offense was struggling to move the ball and the Bearcats were controlling the clock. The crowd, which was the biggest crowd at Lavell Edwards Stadium since 2009, didn't have much to cheer for since Jakob Robinson's pick-six early in the first quarter.
Cosmo, the BYU mascot, entered the field for his weekly stunt and gave the sold-out crowd something to cheer for. First, Cosmo used a flame-thrower to light the two jump ropes on fire. Once the jump ropes were on fire, Cosmo entered the flames and started jumping the ropes. If that wasn't enough, Cosmo replaced standard jumps with backflips. Cosmo completed 12 consecutive backflips over the burning jump rope.
It didn't take long for the stunt to go viral. As of this writing, videos of the stunt have combined for at least 1.9 million views and counting. The stunt even impressed the Cincinnati mascot who bowed down to Cosmo on the field.
Cosmo is no stranger to going viral and the BYU mascot has gained the reputation as one of the best mascots in college sports. Barstool Sports said, "BYU got the best mascot year after year. They never miss."
One sports fan on X joked that Cosmo needs to be called up the NFL.
After a different viral stunt last season, Bleacher Report joked that "BYU's mascot tryouts gotta be like the [NFL] combine."
Cosmo can also dance. Cosmo's most famous video came in 2017 when he joined the BYU Cougarettes for an on-field performance. That video was viewed over 12 million times on YouTube alone.
This certainly won't be the last time Cosmo goes viral.
