ESPN FPI Predicts BYU at Arkansas, Updates Win Projection for the Cougars
The first two games of BYU's 2023 season are in the books. The Cougars took down Southern Utah on Saturday in a 41-16 game. BYU is 2-0 as it heads to Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks. ESPN's predictive college football algorithm, the football power index, updated its prediction for BYU-Arkansas. FPI gives BYU a 20.9% chance to beat Arkansas.
BYU started the 2023 season ranked 60th in FPI. The Cougars were downgraded to 67th after week one and they dropped another three spots to 70th after week two. That is last place in the Big 12 and just behind the Houston Cougars at no. 65. Houston is coming off a loss to Rice. Texas leapfrogged Oklahoma as the highest-ranking Big 12 team in the FPI rankings - the Longhorns rank sixth nationally. Texas is coming off an impressive win on the road at Alabama.

FPI downgraded BYU's projected record after week two. FPI projects BYU will finish with a 4.5-7.5 record. The Power Index gives BYU a 25.5% chance to finish with six or more wins.
In the FPI model, Texas is given 44.3% chance to win the conference and Oklahoma is second at 34.3%. Kansas State is third in line with a 7.2% chance to win the Big 12.
