Former Oklahoma State Starting Left Tackle Caleb Etienne Commits to BYU
On Monday, BYU picked up a big commitment from former Oklahoma State starting left tackle Caleb Etienne. Etienne started 13 games for the Cowboys last season at left tackle. From a depth and talent perspective, the addition of Etienne can't be overstated. Etienne allowed just one sack last season while playing over 1,000 snaps - he alleviates depth concerns at the tackle position and gives BYU a starting-caliber player upfront.
Etienne spent two years at Oklahoma State. After redshirting in 2021, Etienne was one of only a few players to start every game for the Cowboys in 2022. Etienne transferred to Oklahoma State from Butler Community College. Coming out of the JUCO ranks, Etienne held competing offers from Oregon, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Texas Tech, and UCF among others.
Etienne is massive. Listed at 6'7, 325 pounds, Etienne fits the mold of the tall and athletic players that BYU has started at tackle.
BYU has slated highly-talented tackle Kingsley Suamataia to start at left tackle in 2023. BYU offensive coordinator said as much in an interview with BYU Sports Nation after Spring camp The right tackle spot, however, is up for grabs. Brayden Keim and Lisala Tai are a few players that have been competing for that spot. Given Etienne's experience at the Power Five level, he immediately becomes a favorite to win the right tackle spot.
