Oregon Transfer and Former Four-Star Recruit Harrison Taggart Commits to BYU
On Saturday, Oregon transfer and former four-star Corner Canyon standout Harrison Taggart committed to BYU. Taggart signed with Oregon as part of the 2022 recruiting class. After one redshirt season in Eugene, Taggart entered the transfer portal with four years of eligibility remaining. Taggart ranked as the 36th best linebacker in the country in the 2022 class.
Taggart received 25 offers coming out of high school from the likes of USC, Utah, Cal, Virginia, UCLA, Nebraska, Louisville, and Colorado among others. Despite prepping down the road from BYU's campus, Taggart did not receive a scholarship offer from BYU's defensive staff at the time.
With a new defensive coordinator in place, BYU's new defensive staff was aggressive in its pursuit of Taggart and it paid off. Taggart has the potential to make an immediate impact in 2023 and be a fixture in BYU's defense for years to come.
Taggart was one of the fastest linebackers in his class, making him a perfect fit for BYU's new scheme. Taggart ran a sub 10.7 100m in high school.
Decorated High School Career
At Corner Canyon, Taggart was a fixture on a team that won two state championships from 2019-2020 and was the runner-up in 2021. He finished his high school career with over 230 tackles including 22 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, 2 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles.
He was a two-time selection on the Deseret News 6A first-team all-state and he was named a first-team All-American by MaxPreps in 2020.
BYU has created a recruiting pipeline at Corner Canyon over the last several years. BYU signed fellow 2022 four-star recruit Cody Hagen before he left for his mission. Additionally, former Corner Canyon linebacker Micah Wilson is on BYU's roster. Wilson, Taggart, and Hagen were seniors together at Corner Canyon High School.
