Position Changes and Number Changes on BYU's 2023 Spring Roster

Numerous players will change positions for BYU's Spring camp

BYU football is back. On Monday, BYU will begin preparations for the 2023 season when it kicks off Spring camp. Numerous players will be making position changes this Spring, and another batch of players will change their jersey numbers. Below is a recap of those changes, along with a list of the players that used a redshirt season in 2022.

Author note: It's not uncommon for BYU to make a few roster edits after the first day, therefore this roster isn't final; this article will be updated if changes are made to the roster

Position Changes on BYU's Spring Roster

Spring is a great time to test players at new positions. 12 players were listed at new positions on the Spring roster. It's worth noting that these changes might not be permanent. BYU has a history of moving players during the Spring then moving them back for Fall camp.

Chaz Ah You - Linebacker (Listed at Defensive Back, Linebacker in 2022)

After moving back and forth from Safety to Linebacker, Chaz Ah You will stick at Linebacker for the Spring.

Sol-Jay Maiava-Peters - Running Back (Listed at Quarterback in 2022)

Maiava-Peters was moved to running back after leading BYU to a bowl victory at quarterback.

Masen Wake - Tight End (Listed at Fullback, Tight End in 2022)

This change is mostly semantics, Masen Wake will play the same role that he always has in BYU's offense.

Isaiah Glasker - Linebacker (Listed at Defensive Back in 2022)

Isaiah Glasker will move up to linebacker, a move that makes a lot of sense given his 6'5 frame.

Mason Fakahua - Tight End (Listed at Running Back in 2022)

Mason Fakahua got some reps at running back when BYU played Arkansas last season. Now he will line up at tight end.

Ammon Hannemann - Linebacker (Listed at Defensive Back in 2022)

Morgan Pyper - Running Back (Listed at Linebacker in 2022)

Morgan Pyper will move to running back after playing various years on BYU's defense. Pyper was a decorated running back in high school.

Tanner Wall - Defensive Back (Listed at Wide Receiver in 2022)

Tanner Wall will also switch sides of the ball, but he'll go from offense to defense.

Justen Smith - Kicker (Listed at Kicker, Punter in 2022)

Michael Daley - Defensive Line (Listed at Linebacker in 2022)

Michael Daley was one of the best pass rushers in Utah high school football history when he prepped at Lone Peak. The new staff will move him to defensive line this Spring, he played linebacker last year.

Bodie Schoonover - Defensive Line (Listed at Linebacker in 2022)

Bodie Schoonover always had frame to grow into a defensive end, it appears that he will make that transition this Spring with BYU's new defensive scheme.

Fisher Jackson - Linebacker (Listed at Defensive Line in 2022)
