Ranking the Big 12 by NFL Combine Invites

Three former Cougars will participate in the NFL combine

On Wednesday, the NFL released the full list of players invited to the 2023 NFL Combine. In total, 319 players were invited to the combine this year. BYU saw three of its former players receive invites: Jaren Hall, Blake Freeland, and Puka Nacua. Today, let's look at how BYU compared to its Big 12 peers and how the Big 12 stacked up against the other four Power Five conferences in terms of combine invites.

Reigning national runner-up TCU saw a conference high nine players invited to the 2023 NFL Combine. Nine invitees is tied for the third most in the country behind only Alabama (13) and Georgia (12). LSU, Michigan, and Florida also had nine invitees each.

Reigning Big 12 champion Kansas State had four players invited to the combine, including star running back Deuce Vaughn. Cincinnati ranked third in the conference with six players invited - that was the most of the fellow newcomers.

BYU's three invitees is tied for seventh in the new Big 12 alongside Houston. UCF ranked last with only one player invited.

The Big 12 vs the Other Power Five Conferences

The SEC had 78 players invited, more than any other conference. The Pac-12 ranked last out of the Power Five conferences with 30 players invited. Here is a ranking of the Power Five conferences by the number of NFL combine invitees per school.

The Big 12 ranks third with 3.7 combine invites per school. Even if you exclude Texas and Oklahoma, the Big 12 would still rank third with 3.33 combine invites per school.
