SP+ Predicts BYU at TCU
After a bye week, BYU travels to Texas to take on the TCU Horned Frogs. The Cougars are 4-1 and coming off a win over Cincinnati. TCU is 3-3 and coming off consecutive losses to West Virginia and Iowa State. SP+, a predictive algorithm created by ESPN's Bill Connelly, cemented its prediction for BYU-TCU earlier this week.
SP+ gives BYU a 32% chance to beat TCU with an expected final score of 32-24. SP+ is less optimistic about BYU's chances than the oddsmakers. As of this writing, TCU is a five-point favorite over BYU. However, SP+ is higher on BYU's chances than the ESPN FPI algorithm. FPI gives BYU a 28% chance to beat the Horned Frogs.
A Rivalry Renewed
This game will mark the first conference game between BYU and TCU since 2010. BYU and TCU were conference peers in the Mountain West from 2005-2010. In 2011, BYU left the Mountain West to be an independent program in football. In 2012, TCU left the Mountain West to join the Big 12. The two former conference rivals were reunited over the Summer when BYU officially joined the Big 12. In total, these two programs have faced each other 11 teams. TCU leads the series 6-5. The Horned Frogs have won their last four games against BYU.
