SP+ Predicts BYU vs Texas Tech
After a blowout loss to TCU, BYU travels back home to host the Texas Tech Raid Raiders for the first time in program history. The Cougars are 4-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Texas Tech, coming off a home loss to Kansas State, is 3-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play. SP+, a predictive algorithm created by ESPN's Bill Connelly, cemented its prediction for BYU-Texas Tech earlier this week.
SP+ gives BYU a 38% chance to beat Texas Tech with an expected final score of 31-25. SP+ is less optimistic about BYU's chances than the oddsmakers. As of this writing, Tech is just a three-point favorite over BYU. However, SP+ is higher on BYU's chances than the ESPN FPI algorithm. FPI gives BYU a 33% chance to beat the Red Raiders.
Questions at Quarterback for Texas Tech
In Texas Tech's 38-21 loss to Kansas State last Saturday, starting quarterback Behren Morton left the game with an injury. Morton re-aggravated a right shoulder injury that he's been dealing with since the loss to West Virginia. On Monday, Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire said Morton will be a "game-time decision" against BYU.
"Behren's really sore," McGuire added. "I saw him this morning getting treatment, but in good spirits. He's frustrated."
If Morton can't go, Tech will turn to true freshman Jake Strong.
