Updated BYU Football Transfer Tracker After Two Transfer Commitments

The Cougars picked up two transfer commitments over the weekend

Earlier this month, the 30-day transfer portal window opened for all college football players. The Cougars picked up two transfer commitments over the weekend. Here's an updated look at the transfers in and out of the BYU football program as of 12/17/23 at 1:30 PM MT.

Transfers In

Three players have transferred to BYU in this transfer cycle. This list will grow over the next few months.

Sam Vander Haar - Punter

BYU picked up its first transfer portal commitment of the recruiting cycle on Wednesday when Australian punter Sam Vander Haar committed to the Cougars. Vander Haar, who originally signed with Pitt where he played in 2022, entered the transfer portal after Spring ball last season.

Vander Haar won the starting punter job as a true freshman at Pitt before the 2022 season. He appeared in all but two games that season where he punted 30 times averaging 38.5 yards per punt.

Jack Kelly - Linebacker

On Saturday evening, Weber State linebacker transfer Jack Kelly committed to BYU. Kelly, who has two years of eligibility remaining, was recruited by a variety of P4 schools after he entered the transfer portal. Kelly was on campus this weekend for an official visit and he committed on the visit.

As a sophomore at Weber State last season, Kelly led the Wildcats with 8.5 sacks. He was tied for second for the most sacks in the Big Sky conference. He also had 57 tackles, 4 forced fumbles, 5 pass break-ups, and 1 interceptions. He was named to the All-Conference Big Sky first team after the season. 

Marque Collins - Cornerback

On Sunday, Weber State cornerback transfer Marque Collins committed to BYU. Collins, who has one year of eligibility remaining, played in more than 40 games at Weber State.

At Weber State, Collins had five career interceptions. Going into the 2023 season, Collins ranked seventh in Weber State history in career pass breakups with 18. He has played more than 1,600 career snaps according to Pro Football Focus.

Transfer Out

Eight BYU players have entered the transfer portal. Running back Miles Davis entered the transfer portal before returning to BYU.

The December Transfer Window

The transfer portal window officially opened earlier this month. Before , only graduate transfers and players whose coaches had left their current programs could enter the transfer portal. From December 4, 2023 to January 2, 2024, the transfer portal will be open to everyone. Every college football program in the country can expect to lose at least a few players to the portal.
