Utah State DB Transfer Ajani Carter to Take BYU Visit
In preparation for its first season in the Big 12, BYU has heavily recruited the transfer portal. As of this writing, the Cougars have already added 17 players from other programs and are looking to add more. On Thursday, Utah State transfer Ajani Carter will take a visit to BYU before making his transfer decision. Carter, a defensive back, started nine games for the Aggies in 2022.
Since entering the transfer portal, Carter has received offers from Indiana, Baylor, Penn State, Texas State, and Wyoming. He has taken official visits to Indiana and Baylor. He announced that the BYU visit will be his last visit. Carter will have one year of eligibility remaining at his next stop.
Carter is a native of Houston, Texas and he started his career at Utah State as a wide receiver. He switched to the defensive side of the ball in 2020, and he started getting significant playing time in 2021 after he settled in as a defensive back. Last season, Carter started nine games and played nearly 600 snaps for the Utah State defense as a cornerback. In his career, he has tallied over 100 tackles including 4 tackles for loss, 4 interceptions, and 6 PBUs. He received the highest run defense grade on the Utah State defense last season according to Pro Football Focus.
BYU has already added a few Utah State transfers this offseason, most notably veteran linebacker AJ Vongphachanh. Adding Carter would give BYU another veteran from Utah State, and another veteran in the defensive backfield to pair alongside Eddie Heckard and Jakob Robinson. After those two, BYU is inexperienced at cornerback.
Stay tuned for more transfer portal updates in the coming days.
