BYU Flips Former Utah Signee Viliami Po'uha
The first surprise of signing day is in.
On Wednesday, BYU flipped former Utah signee Viliami Po'uha. Po'uha, who is the son of BYU defensive line coach Sione Po'uha, signed with the Utes as part of their 2021 recruiting class. Viliami starred at Bingham High School before leaving to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When Viliami signed with the Utes, his Dad was on Utah's staff. He will follow his Dad to Provo.
Po'uha, a defensive end, will join the program upon his return from his mission. You can check out a few of his high school highlights below.
Po'uha was listed at 230 pounds in high school. He is listed at 260 pounds on BYU's website.
The Cougars are in need of more edge rushers and Po'uha fits that description. After some time learning Jay Hill's scheme, he could factor into the rotation.
Po'uha is yet another piece in an impressive defensive line class for BYU. It's clear that BYU's new defensive staff is prioritizing the defensive line in this class. BYU has six defensive linemen committed in this class:
- Devoux Tuataga
- Adney Reid
- Siosefa Brown
- Dallin Johnson
- Luke To'omalatai
- Danny Saili
- Sani Tuala
- Viliami Po'uha
And BYU isn't done adding defensive linemen in this class. The Cougars are still in the running for players like Naki Tuakoi and Kinilau Fonohema.
