Live Updates

  • Peter Esera, the Father of BYU commit Siale Esera, told 247Sports that Siale Esera will sign with BYU today. Esera had recently taken an official visit to UCLA and was mulling more visits in January. Instead, he will lock things down and sign with BYU.
  • The first NLI of the day is in: four-star tight end Jackson Bowers has signed with BYU. Bowers committed to BYU over offers from Alabama, Washington, Arizona State, LSU, Texas, Oregon, Utah, and many others. Bowers is a big-time talent that will see the field early in his BYU career. He will join the program ahead of the 2023 season in time for Fall camp.
  • Former BYU running back commit Landen Chambers has signed with the University of Central Arkansas. Chambers backed off his BYU commitment a few months ago.
  • Next up is Corner Canyon linebacker Owen Borg. Borg signs with the Cougars over offers from Colorado, Nevada, and San Diego State among others.Β
  • For the first time since the class of 2020, BYU has signed a high school quarterback: Ryder Burton. Burton flew under the radar at nearby Springville High School. Burton has a strong arm and can (clichΓ© incoming) make all the throws. He trained with former BYU great quarterback John Beck.
  • Arizona native Pierson Watson has signed his NLI. Watson is one of the most physical players in this signing class. He committed to BYU over the Summer over competing offers from Nevada and Arizona.
  • Help is on the way for the BYU defensive line. David Tangilanu signs with BYU over competing offers from San Jose State, Army, and Air Force.
  • Three-star wide receiver Josiah Phillips is one of the better wide receivers to sign with BYU in recent history. Phillips committed to the Cougars a few months ago over competing offers from the likes of LSU, Oregon, Michigan State, Pitt, and Cal among others.
  • The NLI for Miles Hall is in. Hall is a versatile athlete that played on both sides of the football for Skyline High School. He will play on defense at BYU, either at safety or linebacker.
  • A really big-time get for BYU. Siale Esera is one of the highest-rated defenders in the state of Utah. He turned down a host of Power Five schools to sign with BYU.
  • JUCO defensive back Jayden Dunlap has submitted his NLI. He held a competing FBS offer from Colorado State.
  • BYU offensive line target Isaiah Jatta committed to Colorado. Jatta recently took an official visit to BYU.
  • BYU has signed UNLV running back transfer Aidan Robbins. Robbins ran for over 1,000 yards for the Rebels last season. Robbins will play a key role in BYU's offense next season.
  • Three-star athlete Saimone Davis is officially a BYU Cougar. Davis will play defensive line at BYU.
  • A tight end out of East High School, Matthew Fredrick is officially a BYU Cougar. Fredrick is one of the lesser known players in this class, but there's a lot of like about what he will bring to the BYU offense.
  • It feels like it's been five years since Pokaiaua Haunga committed to BYU, but he is officially a BYU Cougar. Pokaiaua Haunga will play either running back or wide receiver at BYU.
  • More defensive line reinforcements are on their way. This time, it's interior defensive lineman Talitu’i Pututau. Pututau picked the Cougars over Colorado and Arizona State.
  • BYU RB target LJ Martin will not sign today per the El Paso Times. Martin is committed to Stanford, but BYU has been working to flip him to BYU.

What to Watch For on Signing Day

1. Uncommitted BYU Targets

As of this writing, a few BYU targets have not officially made their college decisions. A few names to watch are Timpview DL Moteaki Mounga and Snow College OL Isaiah Jatta. BYU has also been recruiting four-star tight end Walker Lyons, but Lyons is expected to wait and sign during the traditional signing period. Both Jatta and Mounga officially visited BYU over the last month.

Mounga holds competing offers from Utah State, UNLV, New Mexico State, and SUU. Jatta has received over a dozen offers from the likes of Auburn, Colorado, Cal, Syracuse, and more. Jatta recently took official visits to Colorado and Auburn.

Speaking of Snow College, BYU offered three Snow College defensive lineman on Monday: David Latu, Stone Mulitalo, and John Taumoepeau. Those are names to monitor on Wednesday.

Lastly, BYU has pursued Timpview running back Micah Beckstead as a PWO. Beckstead holds a few scholarship offers from smaller schools like Weber State. If Beckstead does not sign a national letter of intent with one of those schools, it could be a sign that he is headed to Provo. Preferred walk-ons do not sign national letters of intent.

2. Flip Watch

BYU has been pursuing four-star running back LJ Martin, a Stanford commit, ever since former Stanford head coach Dave Shaw stepped down. Martin was on BYU's campus for an official visit a few weeks ago. It's rare for BYU to flip a commitment on signing day, but the Cougars made a push and got him on a visit. He is a name to at least monitor as the day goes on.

3. Transfer Watch

Players in the transfer portal don't have to decide where they will transfer by signing day, so high school and JUCO recruits will be the primary focus on Wednesday. In the past, however, BYU has announced some transfers that commit prior to signing day. Last year, for example, BYU announced Oregon transfer Kingsley Suamataia on signing day.

BYU recently received a commitment from UNLV transfer running back Aidan Robbins. He is a name to watch for tomorrow if BYU announces him. The Cougars have also been pursuing other transfers like running back Daniyel Ngata, defensive back Armani Chatman, quarterback Kedon Slovis, and edge Isaiah Bagnah among others. Signing day could be an opportunity for a few transfers to commit to their next schools.

Stay tuned for live signing day updates on Wednesday.
