BYU Quarterback Commit Noah Lugo Scores Four Touchdowns in Season Opener
Over the weekend, Texas native and BYU quarterback commit Noah Lugo played in the first game of his senior season. Lugo didn't disappoint, racking up 290 yards of total offense and four touchdowns. Lugo flashed his dual-threat ability, scoring three touchdowns through the air and one on the ground. He led Eaton High School to a 28-22 victory over Braswell.
Lugo also displayed his ability to throw on the run and fit throws in tight windows between the linebackers and safeties. He completed 77% of his passes. BYU recruited Lugo for his strong arm and ability to stress defenses with his legs. If Lugo can throw as consistently as he did over the weekend, he has the potential to be a special player for BYU. Lugo will join the program in time for the 2024 season.
As a junior last season, Lugo racked up 30 total touchdowns and nearly 2,700 yards of total offense. His athleticism pops on film and he also has good size at 6'2. Lugo, who was previously committed to UTSA, announced his commitment to BYU earlier this month. He also held competing offers from Indiana, Tulane, Bowling Green, and a host of smaller schools.
BYU has had success with dual-threat quarterbacks under Aaron Roderick. The Cougars are hoping he can follow a similar trajectory as Jaren Hall. Jaren Hall arrived as a raw, athletic quarterback that developed into a great passer at BYU. Hall totaled nearly 7,000 yards of total offense and 61 total touchdowns including 800 yards on the ground. Hall was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2023 NFL Draft.
