BYU Signee Noah Lugo is a True Dual-Threat Quarterback
On Wednesday, three-star quarterback and Texas native Noah Lugo signed with the Cougars. Lugo flipped his commitment from UTSA to BYU back in August and never looked back. He also held competing offers from Indiana, Tulane, Bowling Green, and a host of smaller schools.
Once Lugo got an offer from BYU, he jumped at the opportunity to play in the Big 12 at a school with a quarterback history like BYU's. On his first visit, he sat down with Aaron Roderick and went over film for hours.
Lugo is a true dual-threat quarterback that prepped at Eaton High School in Haslet, Texas. As a senior, Lugo racked up 26 total touchdowns and nearly 2,700 yards of total offense in nine games played. Listed at 6'2, he has a strong arm that can make throws at all levels of the field, and he has the running ability to punish defenses for long runs. His ability to stress the defense with both his arm and legs caught the attention of BYU offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick.
Lugo's athleticism jumps out on film. That will translate to the Power Four level. The key for Lugo will be his development as a passer. If BYU can develop Lugo into an efficient passer in the Big 12, his ability to extend plays and make plays with his feet will make him a very valuable addition to BYU's quarterback room.
BYU has had success with dual-threat quarterbacks under Aaron Roderick. Lugo won't have to rewrite the script of successful quarterback play in Roderick's offense. The Cougars are hoping he can follow a similar trajectory as the quarterbacks that came before him.
BYU has a few quarterbacks committed in the 2024 class, but Lugo is the only one that will enroll for the 2024 season. He plans to enroll in January and participate in Spring camp.
