Nevada Defensive Lineman Salesi Manu Talks BYU Offer

BYU is hoping to add Nevada defensive lineman Salesi Manu to the 2024 recruiting class

Recruiting never sleeps and BYU is trying to add more players to its 2024 recruiting class. Earlier this week, BYU extended a scholarship offer to Nevada native and coveted defensive line recruit Salesi Manu. We caught up with Salesi to discuss his recent offer from BYU.

Manu tells Cougs Daily that he had been hearing from BYU for two months before getting an offer. "Coach Pouha offered me," Manu said. "[Couch Pouha] was letting me know how much they liked my film."

Manu's recruitment has accelerated over the last few weeks. He has picked up offers from Washington State, Cal, Oregon State, and BYU since the start of the month. He also holds competing offers from Arizona State, Colorado State, Nevada, Fresno State, and San Diego State among others.

With so many colleges competing for his signature, Manu is prioritizing scheme fit, geography, and trust with coaching staffs in his recruitment. "I’d say definitely being close to home like on the West coast," Salesi said when asked about the priorities in his recruitment.  "Then definitely having a coaching staff I feel like I can trust and rely on but also with a scheme I can see myself in."

It doesn't take long to see why Manu has become such a coveted prospect on the recruiting trail. He has good size at 6'3, he's physical, and he's quick off the line of scrimmage. Manu is the kind of recruit that could earn early playing time at BYU.

The Cougars would do very well to bring Salesi into the fold. Salesi is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which gives him a connection to the university. BYU's new defensive coaching staff will make Manu a top priority until he makes his college decision.
