BYU has landed its first quarterback of the 2024 recruiting class. On Sunday evening, Arizona quarterback prospect Enoch Watson committed to BYU. BYU was the first school to extend Enoch a scholarship, and it didn't take long for him to commit and secure his spot in BYU's recruiting class. Watson is the younger brother of 2023 signee Pierson Watson.

BYU Connections

Enoch is connected to the BYU football program in various ways. His older brother Pierson Watson signed with BYU as a linebacker during the last signing class. Pierson will join the program in a few years after he serves his mission in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Enoch and Pierson Watson are the nephews of former BYU linebackers Aaron Wagner and Jadon Wagner.

The connections don't stop there. Since his family recently moved from Flag Staff to Queen Creek, Enoch will suit up a new high school this Fall: American Leadership Academy. ALA is coached by former BYU legends Ty Detmer and Max Hall.

On what it's like to be coached by two former BYU quarterbacks, Enoch said in an earlier interview, "I always hear funny stories from both Coach Hall and Coach Detmer. Coach Hall always tells me about times in the weight rooms with other players and just talks about the vibe and energy...Coach Detmer pretty much knows everyone. So he always just talks about the coaching staff at BYU and how much he likes it there. They just went to the alumni game, so it's kind of cool to see them there and play with their old teammates."

Path to Getting an Offer

Enoch has been in touch with BYU and offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick dating back multiple years. He attended a BYU camp after his freshman season. "That's when I first met Coach Roderick and Coach McDaniel," Watson said. "After that first year, I went to camp again, stayed in touch and then once my junior year year hit, I could stay in contact with them."

Watson has also been on BYU's campus multiple times to visit. He was in attendance for a practice during BYU's most recent Spring camp and he met a few of the BYU quarterbacks, including starting quarterback Kedon Slovis.

Coach Roderick recently traveled to Arizona last month to see Enoch in person. A few days later, Roderick called and extended a scholarship offer. It was Enoch's first offer. "It's always been a dream for me," Enoch said on receiving his first offer from BYU. "I always liked sports, you know. So when you get an offer to play at the next level, it's always a blessing."

During his high school career, Enoch has split his time between football, basketball, and baseball. "My whole high school career, my whole life, I played all three sports and it was always one sport to the next. I never really had a break." This Spring, Enoch stepped away from baseball to focus on his football recruitment. "It kind of helped me out to be honest," he said.

Other schools like Weber State, SUU, and North Dakota have been recruiting Enoch. On the same day he received the offer from BYU, he was throwing for the coaching staff at Oregon State. "A lot of coaches have told me to come to their camps," Enoch said. "Coaches have been popping around to see me, but it's just about going through the process right now."

Enoch had the physical tools and potential to see his recruiting profile grow over the next few months. Instead, he shut down his recruitment and committed to BYU. He has great size at 6'3 and he flashes his athleticism from the quarterback position. He is also accurate - he recently won the accuracy challenge at an Under Armour showcase. He was also named co-MVP.

Enoch has played for a run-heavy offense in his high school career. Moving to ALA will allow him to showcase his throwing abilities in a new offense.

When asked how he would describe his game, Enoch said, "I like to think of myself like athletic, strong arm, and can move in the pocket. I can get out of the pocket, but if you need that first down, I'm getting it."

Watson is the fifth commit in BYU's 2024 class. He joins fellow commits Siosefa Brown, Dallin Johnson, Chance Harrison, and Adney Reid.
