All-Summit League Forward B.J. Omot Commits to Cal

B.J. Omot was the leading scorer for the University of North Dakota this past season and becomes coach Mark Madsen's third transfer this offseason

Cal basketball head coach Mark Madsen has added his third transfer and his second from a four-year school.

Bajemo “BJ” Omot, a transfer from the University of North Dakota, announced on social media on Monday that he has committed to Cal’s basketball program.

The 6-foot-8 forward from Mankato, Minnesota, was a first-team All-Summit League selection this past season as a sophomore. He led the team in scoring at 16.7 points per game and scored 30 points in a road game against Kansas City. Omot was fourth on the team in rebounds at 4.2 per game, and he led the team with 26 blocks.

Perhaps most important of all, he is an excellent perimeter shooter.  He made 53 three-pointers for the season and hit 41.6% of his shots from long range. North Dakota went 18-14 overall and 10-6 in the Summit League.

Omot had 24 points in a loss to Iowa and 21 in a loss to Nebraska.

Omot was also North Dakota’s leading scorer as a freshman in 2022-23 when he averaged 12.0 points and 3.7 rebounds while blocking 31 shots for a team that went 13-20 overall and 6-12 in the conference.

Vanderbilt transfer Lee Dort and junior college transfer Jeff Nwankwo committed to Cal in the past two weeks.
