Cal Women's Basketball: Bears Roll Past Florida A&M

Michelle Onyiah owns the boards as Cal improves to 5-0 despite being without two starters

Michelle Oniyah was moved into Cal's starting lineup the past two games because of injuries to teammates, and she made the most of her opportunity.

After collecting 19 rebounds and three blocks in Friday's victory at Auburn, Onyiah nearly matched that effort on Monday, when she had 18 rebounds and three blocks in the Bears' 76-38 victory over Florida A&M in Tallahassee, Fla.

Cal improved its record to 5-0 despite being without two starters. Ioanna Krimili did not play in either game on the road trip to the Southeast because of an injury, and Kemery Martin played only the first 26 seconds of Monday's game as she took a shot to the face in the opening minute. Martin remained on the bench with cotton in her nose, but did not get back in the game.

The offensive star for Cal was Leilani McIntosh, who finished with 25 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 5-of-7 on three-point shots.  She did all of her scoring in the first three quarters.  McIntosh also had five assists.

McIntosh scored 14 of her points in the first 13 minutes of the game as the Bears jumped on top early against overmatched Florida A&M (0-4).

With Onyiah leading the way, Cal outrebounded the Rattlers 53-31 while limiting Florida A&M to 24.6% shooting.

Cal was good but not great on offense, making 39.0% of its field-goal attempts and committing 17 turnovers.

Marta Suarez, who poured in 27 points against Auburn, added 16 points on Monday.

The Bears figure to have a tougher time in the their next game -- a home game Friday at noon against a San Jose State with a 3-2 record.
