Cal Guard Jarred Hyder Enters Transfer Portal

He did not play for the Bears during the 2022-23 season

Cal guard Jarred Hyder, who missed the entire 2022-23 season with an injury, has entered the transfer portal, according to multiple reports.

Hyder had back surgery and was ruled out for the rest of the season in early December.

Hyder becpomes the fifth Cal player to enter the transfer portal since the end of the 2022-23 season.  He joins Joel Brown, Kuany Kuany, Lars Thiemann and Sam Alajiki.

Hyder began his college career at Fresno State, and he was a starter for the Bulldogs as a freshman, averaging 9.1 points.

He transferred to Cal after his freshman season and played in 21 games, including four starts for the Golden Bears in 2020-21, averaging 16.2 minutes, 5.4 points and 1.8 assists while making 22.7% of his three-point shots.

Injuries affected Hyder's 2021-22 season with Cal and his playing time and production decreased. He played in 21 games, including two starts, and averaged 8.8 minutes and 1.3 points.

He would have been helpful this past season, because the Bears were short on backcourt players, particuarly point guards.  But Hyder was unable to get on the court at all during the 2022-23 season, when Cal finished with a 3-29 record.

Hyder will be a grad transfer with one season of college eligibility remaining.  He entered the transfer shortly after Mark Madsen was officially announced as Cal's new head coach.
