Ex-Cal Star Jayda Curry Transfers to Louisville

She explains in the twitter video in the story why she chose Louisville after leading the  Bears in scoring each of her two seasons in Berkeley

Jayda Curry, who led Cal in scoring in each of her two seasons with the Bears, announced this week that she will transfer to Louisville.

"We are thrilled to welcome Jayda Curry to the Cardinal Family," said Louisville head coach Jeff Walz on the Louisville website. "Jayda brings with her a wealth of experience as a two-year starter and all-conference performer at Cal. Her experience and leadership will be counted on to bring us scoring and distribution from the back court. She can perform at both ends of the floor and score at all three levels. There is no doubt she will elevate the production of her teammates around her. Jayda has an infectious personality and the Cardinal faithful will love her passion and enthusiasm for the game."

Curry was the Pac-12 scoring leader in 2021-22 when she was a freshman, averaging 18 points per game, and she was fifth in the conference in scoring this past season as a sophomore, averaging 15.5 points.

She entered the transfer portal shortly after the end of the 2022-23 season, and she noted in the twitter video below that she hopes she can win a national championship at Louisville. The chance to play in the NCAA tournament apparently motivated Curry to make the move.

The Bears did not have a winning record in either of Curry's seasons at Cal, which went 4-14 in conference play this past season after going 1-10 in the Pac-12 in Curry's freshman season.

Curry notes in the video that Louisville reached the Elite Eight in this year's NCAA tournament before losing to eventual runnerup Iowa.

Louisville has been in the NCAA tournament each of the past 12 seasons (excluding 2020, when the tournament was canceled), and the Cardinals have finished ranked in the top eight in the country in eight of the past 10 seasons.

Curry hails from Corona, California, and played high school ball at Centennial High School.

She wore No. 30 at Cal, like Steph Curry of the Warriors, and she will wear No. 30 at Louisville.
