Cal Basketball: Mark Madsen Signs 3-Star Guard Jeremiah Wilkinson from Georgia
Jeremiah Wilkinson, a quick guard from Powder Springs, Georgia, who committed to Cal in late August, made it official on Wednesday, signing a letter-of-intent to join the Golden Bears next fall.
Wilkinson, who is rated as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports Composite, is the Bears’ first 2024 signee. At 6-foot-1, he is regarded as a combo guard.
He is playing this year for The Skill Factory in Atlanta, where he recently put up huge numbers in a tournament the team played in Taiwan.
“We’re very excited to have Jeremiah join the Cal family next year,” Cal coach Mark Madsen said in a statement. “He’s an explosive and dynamic scoring guard with great vision who will make an impact for us as we transition to the ACC next season.
“It was evident early in the recruiting process that Jeremiah is aligned with our program’s core values. Jeremiah is going to be an outstanding player here at Cal, and we can’t wait to have him wearing the Blue and Gold!”
Wilkinson picked Cal over Florida, Mississippi State, Butler and Ole Miss among others.
In an interview with RYZE Hoops after he initially committed, Wilkinson said Cal appealed to him on multiple fronts.
“There’s really a family feel between the players and the coaches and the area out there is really nice so it was really a no-brainer,” he said. "They like that I’m dynamic, I’m athletic, I can plan on the ball or off the ball and I can also play defense. With their fine-tuning, what they can help me with, I can really excel.”
Wilkinson played at McEachern High School before enrolling with The Skill Factory. He played on the summer circuit with Game Elite, the same program that once featured former Cal star and two-time NBA All-Star Jaylen Brown.
Wilkinson averaged 15.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game for Game Elite, according to Cal.
With TSF, Wilkinson traveled to Taiwan in September for the 10th Ever Glory Cup event, an international charity tournament. He reportedly averaged 36.5 points over six games and was named MVP after putting up 45 points in the final game against Kuang Fu of Taiwan.
Since then, he apparently put up 33 points as The Skill Factory lost to the NBA Academy’s Latin American team.
Cal, which beat St. Thomas 71-66 on Monday in Madsen’s first game as coach, returns to action Friday night at home against Pacific.
